In fact Jordan is part of the <\/span>Holy Land and has several <\/span>biblical attractions<\/span>\u00a0<\/a>that attract pilgrimage and tourist activities. <\/span><\/p>\n particularly Biblical sites include; Muwakir (Arabic for Machaerus) was the hilltop stronghold of Herod the Great.<\/span><\/p>\n Due to Herod’s death, his son Herod Antipas inhabited the fortress, and ordered John the Baptist to be beheaded there and where the fabled Salom\u00e9 daughter of Herodias is said to have danced the famous Dance of the Seven Veils thus asking for John the Baptists’ head.<\/span><\/p>\n In detail<\/span> Jordan River<\/a><\/span>,<\/a>\u00a0which is the river where Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist\u00a0<\/span>Madaba<\/span>\u00a0<\/a>is well known for its mosaics, as well as important religious sites such as The Madaba Map, the oldest surviving original cartographic depiction of the Holy Land and especially Jerusalem. It dates to the 6th century AD.<\/span><\/p>\n
