Compared to many of its neighbors in the Middle East, Jordan is an exceptionally safe country to visit. In fact, the Jordanian government puts a lot of effort and money into making visitors feel safe through high-profile security and police presence in tourist regions and in hotels.
You can comfortably see Petra in a day. Everyone has different levels of historic site tolerance: you could spend five to six hours exploring, or twice that time – but even so, a day gives you plenty of time.
Jordanians typically respect those who are kind, friendly, and hospitable. They are generally socially conservative; family values and honor are fiercely protected. Jordanians are proud of their rich cultural heritage.
The Jordanian people are a very friendly bunch. Maybe it’s because of the downturn in tourism over recent years which has made them more appreciative and welcoming to those tourists that do make it over here. Or maybe it’s just the way they are. You decide.
You will probably be able to find a number of free Wi-Fi spots throughout Jordan, and many restaurants and cafes will have free open access to Wi-Fi. Don’t expect to find Wi-Fi in many of the desert areas, where you’ll often not have a full 24 hours of electricity.
Although Jordan's people still famous for hospitality, generosity, traditional Arabic home design, eastern attitude, Bedouin weddings, Arabic traditional meals like Mansaf, keeping up with ethical street rules and neighbour’s rights, and lifelong parenting and family cohesion.
Jordanians tend to be fairly traditional about their dressing. It's recommended to skip revealing or scruffy clothes. Women typically dress modestly. Here is a place where shorts and short skirts are highly unusual; it's recommended to wear loose-fitting, opaque clothes that cover your legs, arms, and chest.
Jordan is one of the safest places for women to travel around in the Arab world, and is an excellent introduction for first-time visitors to the Middle East.
The official language of Jordan is Arabic, but English is widely spoken especially in the cities. Many Jordanians have travelled, or have been educated abroad, so French, German, Italian and Spanish are also spoken, but to a lesser extent.
